Rule #10- To Change the World

Be generous.

Last week a man walked into a Starbucks in Tulsa, Oklahoma, ordered his coffee and then paid for it and the strangers coffee behind him. This one act started a chain reaction of generosity that concluded with 185 people buying coffee for the stranger behind them.

For one afternoon in a Starbucks in Tulsa Oklahoma the reality of 185 people changed. 185 people began considering the stranger standing behind them before they considered themselves.

1 stranger, with 1 cup of coffee, changed the world for 185 people, for 1 afternoon.

Be generous. Not just to the people you know, but to everyone you come in contact with. You never know what you may start.

Rule #9- To Change the World

ACT don’t REACT. The difference between the two is simply time. It’s the ten seconds you take before responding to criticism. It’s THINKING before you SPEAK. Because sometimes our quickest reactions are the ones we regret the longest.

Your Rules to Change the World

If you have kept up at all with any of this blog, you have seen some of the “Rules to Change the World” posts.

These are a small part of a growing list of things that I genuinely believe, if done, have the potential of changing the world around me.

They are less about the actions that result in changing the world, but more about a change of thought, lifestyle, and how we relate to others that could affect change.

I am curious what rules you have that would affect genuine change around you? Maybe we could build this list together?

Rule #8- To Change the World

Stay alert.

There are opportunities around every corner to make some kind of difference in the lives of the people and the world around you. The reason most people don’t take advantage of these opportunities is that they don’t recognize them, and if they do, they aren’t ready for them.

Stay alert. Be ready.

Rule #7- To Change the World

Keep your word.

Do what you say you’re going to do no matter what, even if the only person who is inconvenienced is you.

Rule #6- To Change the World

Disapointments will come. People will let you down.

Endure.

Rule #5- To Change the World

You cannot buy influence, but you can borrow it.

Find those people around you with more influence than you have, and take your passion to them. You might hear 100 no’s, but all you really need is one yes.

Rule #4- To Change the World

Invest in people.

Find one or two people that you know could use a friend and give them your time, your love, and most importantly your sincerity.

Rule #3- To Change the World

If you discover a cause you’re passionate about, immediately pursue it.
“Don’t think you have to put on a fund-raising campaign before you start. You don’t need a lot of equipment. You are the equipment… Travel light.”

Rule #2- To change the world

When you see someone and ask them how they’re doing, stop and listen.
